NICOLE WINS ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT SUPERBIKE
How it happened - from 2nd to 1st place: The "RS" that finished in first was a full blown factory ex-Milandri-caliber RSV250 ($100,000 per copy), determined by it's engine note and exhaust system. So Jeff waited until the end of the race to take a peek at it before the 30 minute protest window closed, but we could not locate the bike. The following morning the bike was spotted and noticed that it was strikingly similar to the Chuck Sorenson RSV 250 operated by Team Stargel (won the AMA 250 GP last year, BUT it was NOT one of Stargels bikes) in the same pit area. After being confronted, the racer forfieted the points/trophy.

A Second Place Finish in Ultra Lightweight Superbike
Nicole earned a respectable second place finish in her class on Friday, February 27th. This class, new in '04 to CCS, proved to be a perfect class in which Nicole could display her talents. Hoping to win at Daytona, Nicole placed second behind a heavily modified Aprilia RS250. "I know that I could have taken the win with the additional horsepower - I was faster through the infield but just didn't have enough through the banking and on the straights." Daytona is a horsepower track - more emphasis on top speed as opposed to cornering speed through the infield.
Revised: Jeff Finishes 9th Place in Formula 40
For Jeff completion of the race was a major milestone, plagued with the dreaded "Daytona Curse" since 1997 which resulted in numerous DNFs and substandard performance based upon mechanical failures. His goals prior to the race was to merely complete the race without mishap. With frigid temperatures and multiple crashes in previous races it looked as though his years of bad luck would continue. Fortunately the curse is now history - in a field of more than 20 racers, Jeff finished a well-deserved 9th place despite a 'false neutral' which resulted in being passed by several riders. "I blew the first International Horseshoe - preventing me from a top five finish, but all-in-all a great start to the 2004 season".
The weather conditions played a huge role at Daytona International Speedway on Friday. With the 40 degree weather and wind speeds of up to 15 MPH, these added elements created an additional challenge for the 30-minute GT races and several 6-lap sprint races.
